Our Favorite Places on Oahu
Makapuʻu Lookout
One of the most breathtaking viewpoints on the island. On a clear day you’ll see turquoise water stretching for miles, dramatic sea cliffs, and during whale season, humpback whales passing offshore.
Halona Blowhole & Eternity Beach
These two stops are only minutes apart and are some of the most beautiful places on Oahu’s southeastern coastline. Watch waves explode through the natural lava blowhole before walking over to Eternity Beach, made famous by the classic film From Here to Eternity.
Kualoa Regional Park
With the Koʻolau Mountains towering behind Chinaman’s Hat Island, this is one of the most iconic views in all of Hawaii and one you won’t want to miss.
Waimea Valley
This is one of our favorite places to recommend. The paved walk through lush botanical gardens leads to a beautiful waterfall where you can swim (conditions permitting). It’s a perfect mix of nature, history, and Hawaiian culture.
Puaʻena Point (Turtle Beach)
If seeing Hawaiian green sea turtles is on your bucket list, this is one of our favorite spots. It’s often less crowded than other turtle viewing locations while still offering incredible opportunities to observe these amazing animals from a respectful distance.
Dole Plantation
A classic stop for first-time visitors. Grab a Dole Whip, browse local gifts, and learn a little about Hawaii’s pineapple history before heading back toward Waikiki.
Our Favorite Local Foods
No trip to Oahu is complete without trying local food.
Some of our favorites include:
- Garlic shrimp on the North Shore
- Fresh poke from local fish markets
- Leonard’s Bakery malasadas
- Hawaiian plate lunches
- Matsumoto Shave Ice
- Fresh tropical fruit from roadside stands
Our advice? Skip as many chain restaurants as you can. Some of Hawaii’s best food comes from the small local businesses you’ll discover along the way.
Planning Tips We Give Every Visitor
- Start your sightseeing early to avoid traffic and crowds.
- Leave room in your itinerary for spontaneous stops.
- Pack reef-safe sunscreen and plenty of water.
- Always check ocean conditions before swimming.
- Support local businesses whenever possible.
- Don’t try to “see it all.” Oʻahu is best enjoyed at a slower pace.
